Mrs Umamaheshwari

Mrs. Umamaheshwari, a 58-year-old farmer, began her journey in conventional farming 25 years ago. Over the years, she noticed declining profits, soil fertility, and productivity.

In 2008, she joined the Thennamanallur Vennila MM and now serves as its treasurer. Her active participation extends to the Women Farmers Group under CORD, the Farmer’s Club, and as a shareholder in the Siruvani Farmer Producer Company. She is a regular at meetings, eagerly applying her newfound knowledge, contributing opinions, and seeking clarifications when needed.

Her involvement with CORD led her to meet successful organic farmers, inspiring her to transition to organic farming three years ago. This shift has yielded better prices for her vegetables and reduced her input costs. She delivers her produce door-to-door by bicycle. In addition to cultivating vegetables, she tends to around 200 hens, owns a cow and two calves (one being of an indigenous breed), and produces organic products such as Panchagavya, Dashaparni, Jeevamrutam, and other biopesticides like ginger-garlic-tobacco solution.
