Mrs Vasanthamani Moh

Mrs. Vasanthamani Moh, a 50-year-old farmer who has studied up to the 7th standard, has been engaged in farming for many years. An active member of CORD’s MM, she serves as the treasurer of the Velmurugam MM. She owns 3 acres of rain-fed land, equipped with a borewell. Despite her persistent efforts since 2009, she struggled to secure an electrical supply for her land.

In June 2017, her situation changed after attending a Capacity Building meeting organized by CORD. The resource person, Mr. Pradeep Kumar, a senior official in the Consumer Forum, advised the farmers on addressing this issue. Following his guidance, she successfully obtained an electrical connection under the Tatkal scheme by paying Rs. 3 lakhs. This development has lessened her dependence on rainwater for farming.

Apart from farming, she raises a hen and a cow and uses pheromone traps among other agricultural inputs. To supplement her income, she also crafts paper covers, which she sells to nearby shops.
