Breaking Barriers: A Triumph in Disability Advocacy

On September 25, 2016, a collaborative effort led by Mr. Vinay Kumar, field facilitator, Mr. Rinku, president of Chinmaya Umang, Treasurer Ms. Rajnibala, and two Village Resource Persons, culminated in a significant stride for disability rights. They submitted an application to the Regional Manager (RM) of Himachal Road Transport Corporation in Dharamshala, advocating for accessible ramps at the Kangra and Dharamshala bus stands as part of the Accessibility India Campaign. The RM assured prompt action in constructing these ramps.

Furthering their mission, members of Chinmaya Umang and Village Resource Persons engaged with the Additional Commissioner of Smart City Dharamshala and the Regional Manager of Himachal Road Transport Corporation in both Dharamshala and Nagrota Bagwan. Their discussions centered on enhancing accessibility provisions in public buildings, aligning with the goals of the Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan initiative. This collaborative advocacy marked a significant step towards creating an inclusive environment for persons with disabilities.
