Reviving rural communities, one simple change at a time

A symphony of progress – witness the transformative power of collaborative programs in rural India

A four-decade-long journey of service and dedication

As rural development pioneers, our mission is to harness rural India’s inherent wisdom to catalyze women-led community participation. Our holistic approach to rural enrichment began with a focus on primary healthcare, maternal and child health, and child development, leading to comprehensive, multi-faceted community-driven programs.

We began our journey in 1985 in Sidhbari, Himachal Pradesh, under the guidance of Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda and the Chinmaya Tapovan Trust. Originally known as the Chinmaya Rural Primary Health Care and Training Centre (CRPHC&TC), we improved rural communities through self-perpetuating development.

In 2003, Guruji Swami Tejomayananda established CORD as a separate trust to replicate our rural development work on a national level. The CRPHC&TC became the nucleus of CORD.

The success in Sidhbari reached beyond community health and diversified our training programs and interventions on multiple issues. We took our grassroots and training sessions held at the Sidhbari to other states such as Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, and Punjab.

In 2007, CORD expanded operations to include an orphanage for girls called ‘Chinmaya Vijaya’ near Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.

CORD India’s work inspired the establishment of independent trusts and entities in Sri Lanka (CORD Sri Lanka) and the US (CORD USA), under the auspices of Chinmaya Mission Worldwide.

Today, with a commitment to universal brotherhood and selfless service, we are enabling rural communities to thrive and individuals to address their community’s needs through our training sessions.

Elevating rural India – a multi-dimensional approach to advancement

As pioneers in rural development, our mission is to harness the inherent wisdom of rural India to catalyze women-led community participation. Since our founding in 1985, we have significantly impacted rural communities across the country by building a self-enabling fabric of rural prosperity within the framework of local self-governance.

Our all-inclusive approach to rural enrichment began with a focus on primary healthcare, maternal and child health, and child development, which led to comprehensive, multi-faceted community-driven programs. Through our extensive training sessions, we empower individuals to address the unique needs of their communities and improve countless lives in the process.

With an unwavering commitment to universal brotherhood and selfless service, we are enabling rural communities to thrive for generations to come.

Today, we continue to build rural communities and promote independent development through our various programs and initiatives.

Unfolding human potential with the guidance of our Rishis

CORD substratum is a rich and profound spiritual thread of the wisdom of Vedantic knowledge shared by Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda, the founder of Chinmaya Mission, and carried on by his students. This spiritual self-discovery, which is the untapped potential of individuals and communities, is successfully serviced with love and dedication.

By fostering both spiritual and practical forms of service, we are positively impacting the lives of millions of people and contributing to the creation of a more compassionate and connected world.

Enabling rural prosperity the rural way

Our mission is not just to help, it is to help others help themselves

We are focused on supporting individuals and communities to become self-sufficient, rather than simply providing help. Our goal is to promote long-term sustainability and independence.

Our vision is to harness rural India’s wisdom to elevate rural welfare

By leveraging the knowledge and expertise of rural India, we have been able to give back self-enabled growth and upliftment options to village communities using our unique working models that contextually align with their needs.

Collaboration, enablement, and social justice

Our commitment to a better world

At our core lies a deeply held belief in the power of human potential. Regardless of their background and circumstances, each individual can positively impact their community and the world around them.

Our philosophy is based on a bottom-up approach, we prioritize working with grassroots communities to effect change. We recognize the critical role that women play in promoting positive social impact. Women-led Mahila Mandals are a central part of our approach and help us bring meaningful change to their environment, families, and communities.

We aim to create a world in which every individual has the opportunity to add to their capabilities and contribute to a more equitable and just society. This is only possible through collaboration, self-enablement, and a deep commitment to social and economic justice.

Transforming communities with collaborative programs

The true impact of our programs can be seen in the transformation of communities themselves. As our communities become more resilient and self-reliant, they are better equipped to overcome their challenges. By fostering a culture of ownership and participation, our programs create a foundation for sustainable development built to last.
