The Occupational Optometry branch of Sankara Netralaya from Chennai in collaboration with CORD Siruvani conducted eye camps on 6 days in 4 locations in Coimbatore for the 3rd consecutive year. On an average, 500 villagers were screened every year for various vision problems. Every year around 300 of them were found to need spectacles which were given free by Sankara Netralaya. Those having cataract were referred for surgery and those having Glaucoma were referred for further treatment. CORD identified villagers( during Mahila Mandal meetings ) having eyesight problems and mobilized them for the camp. CORD also helped transport the villagers. When the spectacles arrived, they were distributed with proper instructions.
