Optometry Camp

The Occupational Optometry division of Sankara Netralaya, based in Chennai, has collaborated with CORD Siruvani for the third consecutive year to conduct eye camps across four locations in Coimbatore. These camps, held over six days, have consistently screened an average of 500 villagers annually for various vision-related issues. Each year, approximately 300 individuals are identified as needing spectacles, which Sankara Netralaya provides at no cost. Additionally, individuals diagnosed with cataract are referred for surgery, while those with glaucoma are directed to seek further treatment.

CORD plays a pivotal role in these camps by identifying villagers with eyesight problems during Mahila Mandal meetings and subsequently mobilizing them to attend the camps. CORD also facilitates transportation for these villagers to the camp locations. Upon the arrival of the spectacles, they are distributed to the villagers, accompanied by thorough instructions for use.
