
Divyanshu
15 years old, Divyanshu having 50% of Intellectual Disability belongs from Kathgarh panchayat of district Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. The family belongs to SC (Schedule Caste) and marginalized class i.e. BPL (Below Poverty Line). Prior parents were not aware of the condition of their child. CORD’s team member visited their home and counseled them about the condition of Divyanshu. Later, by encouraging the parents, his disability certification was made. After that he was linked with other government schemes and entitlements like UDID (Unique Disability Identity Card), Disability pension (1150Rs/month) and Ayushmaan card (Health Insurance). Now he has completed his education till 8th grade and regularly takes part in Special Olympics activities. His father Sandesh Singh had left hemiparesis. He was the only bread earner of the family which drastically affected them. His father’s medical certification of 60% was made and with its help he is now receiving disability allowance of 1150Rs/month. Later his mother Mamta Devi was linked with MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. 2005) and CORD’s facilitated Mahila Mandal and Self help group. To improve the financial condition of the family, his father was helped by CORD to start a street shop where Divyanshu helps his father in the distribution of the items. They are earning around 3000Rs/month from the shop. The family thanks CORD for bringing a significant change in the life of marginalized people and encouraging them to be an active contributor in the society.
