Bui Devi

This is the story of Mrs. Bui Devi, who hails from Village Kudsa, Panchayat Kudsa, Block Indora. Mrs. Bui Devi was living illegally by building a temporary shed on government land, as no land was available in her husband’s name. As a result, she did not benefit from any government facilities. Her husband, a laborer, did not earn enough to buy land for a house. Bui Devi has three sons; the eldest is a daily wage laborer, and the younger two are still studying. The SHG formed by CORD emerged as a boon for Mrs. Bui Devi, fulfilling her dream of owning her home on her land. The Chinmaya Lakshmi Self Help Group, formed by CORD in 2018 in Mrs. Bui Devi’s village, included her as a member. She took a loan of Rs 50,000 from this SHG to buy half a kanal of land for building a house. Initially, they lived in a shed on their land. In 2021, Mrs. Bui Devi took another loan of Rs. 100,000 from her SHG and built her own house, where she now lives happily with her family. Later, Mrs. Bui Devi purchased a buffalo by taking a loan of Rs 25,000 from her SHG. She now earns ₹15,000 every month by selling buffalo milk. Bui Devi plans to buy another cow with a loan from her SHG to expand her milk business and increase her income.
