Divyanshu

Divyanshu, a 15-year-old from Kathgarh panchayat in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, lives with his family belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Below Poverty Line categories. He has an intellectual disability of 50%. Initially, his parents were unaware of his condition until CORD’s team visited and informed them. Following their guidance, Divyanshu obtained his disability certification, linked to government schemes such as the Unique Disability Identity Card, a monthly disability pension of Rs. 1150, and the Ayushmaan health insurance card. He has completed education up to the 8th grade and actively participates in Special Olympics activities.

Divyanshu’s father, Sandesh Singh, suffered from hemiparesis and was the family’s sole breadwinner. His medical condition, certified at 60%, now qualifies him for a monthly disability allowance of Rs. 1150. Meanwhile, Divyanshu’s mother, Mamta Devi, engaged with the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), CORD’s Mahila Mandal, and a Self Help Group.

To bolster the family’s finances, CORD helped Sandesh start a street shop where Divyanshu assists with item distribution. This venture brings in about Rs. 3000 per month. The family credits CORD with significantly improving their lives and encouraging them to contribute actively to society.
